When our phones hardly let us breathe and a “moment of peace” has become a luxury item, it’s hard to believe that someone still sits down to create stories that… simply need to be heard. And yet – someone does.
Konrad Spuła, Marketing Manager at Visline, and after hours an audio drama creator, musician, and a man who stubbornly – like a true chronicler – tries to restore the old magic of sound. His projects blend philosophy, history, and music, pulling the listener into a world where storytelling matters again. How is it possible that art and transport share any common ground? That’s what Zuzanna Malek set out to discover.

Zuzanna Malek: Konrad, your audio dramas have a completely different atmosphere than what the Internet has accustomed us to. How did the idea begin?

Konrad Spuła: With music. I’ve always been close to playing, telling stories, improvising. But I noticed the online world lacks… storytelling. Real storytelling – like in the old days: radio plays, tapes, the atmosphere of listening together. I thought: what if I try to bring it back? Combine spoken word with live music and see if today’s audience even has space for that. Turns out they do – and more than I expected.

ZM: What do your productions look like? What can listeners expect?

KS: These are stories with a second layer. Philosophy, symbolism, emotion. We’ve been playing together as a group for five years, and we’ve been creating audio dramas for four. It’s a more intimate form than a live concert – more “into the ear.” Our characters often chase something unattainable. In one story they achieved everything except one cave. And suddenly the question appears: do we really need to achieve everything? I like when a listener pauses for a moment and thinks.

ZM: Sounds like creative chaos. What’s your recording process like?

KS: In the best way possible – yes, it’s chaos. We start with the voice recordings, then add instruments, all played live. Bouzouki, mandolin, different ethnic sounds. Sometimes we use something as simple as dried fruit or a piece of wood that squeaks like the door of an old cottage. Music is usually in the background, but sometimes it takes over the story. We improvise a lot – that’s what creates the real atmosphere.

ZM: And the audience? Who reacts best during live performances?

KS: The people who show up despite the rain. Those sitting together under a small shelter. Perfect conditions – a bit improvised, a bit magical. We perform in bars, cultural centers, at conventions, but the smallest meetings are the most interesting. That’s when the story truly breathes.

ZM: I saw your performance at Visline and I must admit – I came in curious, and left with sore cheeks from laughing. How do you connect all this with marketing and transport?

KS: Easily: marketing is also about storytelling. About people, services, a brand. At Visline I try to show that transport is not just tonnage and deadlines. It’s a journey. The cargo is the protagonist, time is the tension, and unpredictability is the plot. It’s a ready-made narrative. Stories sell, but they also explain, organize, and give meaning.

ZM: At Visline we recently held a contest for the most interesting employee passion, and you won one of the categories. What will you use the prize for?

KS: I submitted the audio dramas as a project that has a positive impact on the world. And I won – to my surprise. Thanks to that, we can rent a professional studio and improve the quality of our recordings. What’s great is that Visline genuinely supports things like this. It creates space to pursue something of your own.

ZM: So when can we expect new audio dramas?

KS: One is coming in November, another one – December or January. The theme: a man who sells evil. Sounds dark, but the story has lots of twists. And everything under our name “Co Słyszał Jesion” – you can find us on Spotify and YouTube.

ZM: Perfect for autumn evenings. Thank you for the conversation – I have a feeling you’ll remind many people how good it feels to simply… listen.

KS: Thank you! I hope these stories give people a moment to breathe. Sometimes that’s all you need.
