Visline – the story of the order that started it all
One never forgets their first transport order. Even 15 years after its completion. Since Monday, April 6, 2009, a lot has changed. Drones began flying over our heads, Elon Musk’s Starlinks soared even higher, and the digital transformation made artificial intelligence increasingly take over routine tasks. Time also did not stand still at Visline – from a few dozen orders at the beginning of our operations, we smoothly transitioned to over 40,000 executed each year, and this number continues to grow.
Here, we could list a series of our achievements, but how much more interesting it would be to transport ourselves back to 2009 for a moment to realize how much the world has accelerated, and to remind ourselves of the realities that shaped the present.
No Star, No Drive
This was unofficially said among drivers about one of the most desired trucks of those years. The Mercedes Benz Sprinter was an object of desire for its silhouette, technical parameters, and driving comfort. This model was one of the first, alongside Fiats and Volkswagens, that began the fleet of modern trucks at Visline. Currently, it counts over 150 trucks of various capacities available throughout Europe.
Flip Phones
Yes! When Visline was established, the market for mobile phones was dominated by devices with a keyboard cover. One of them was the popular Sony Ericsson W995 model, which was equipped with a camera that had an excellent 8 Mpx sensor for those times! Owning this now classic model is nostalgically remembered by one of our employees, “The battery lasted a good couple of weeks. Not like now.”
Strange People with Sticks
In 2009, the sight of people dashing through neighborhood parks, forest paths, or other recreational areas with two sticks in their hands was relatively new. The phenomenon of Nordic walking was just arriving in Poland, which Radio Three, exactly 15 years ago, dedicated an entire broadcast to. Nowadays, caring for good form and ensuring physical activity is one of the daily rituals, and luckily for the employees of our Gdynia branch, they are just a few steps away from both the gym and the forest from work.
Poker Face
2009 in popular culture and media? Lady Gaga tops the charts worldwide, but she is slowly being caught up by another rising pop star – Taylor Swift. The movie hit of the year is Avatar, and youth are flocking to multiplexes to admire Daniel Radcliffe in the adaptation of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. News services devote a lot of time to the situation in the Middle East, work begins on the construction of a civilian airport in Lublin, and Europe lives through the visit of Barack Obama. Contrary to what the sensational headlines of April 2009 proclaimed, the world 15 years ago was a bit more stable and predictable than today, although in transport, as in transport, change reigns supreme, and success is achieved by those who can respond to it in a flash.
Culture and Working Conditions
From the perspective of time, it turns out that not much has changed in the functioning of organizations. We can proudly say that the motto – the person is the most important, has accompanied our company from the beginning and is still relevant.
Eight years before the premiere of Microsoft Teams, the Visline team was doing great working in a hybrid model – at home and in the office. The great autonomy of employees, flat structure, and truly familial atmosphere are our business DNA. This directly translates into comfort and culture of work – very low turnover and high ratings in employee satisfaction surveys. Thanks to this, we maintain excellent relationships based on kindness and collegiality, and the result of excellent cooperation is efficiency.
The only thing that has significantly changed over 15 years is the number of employees and location – from a few people in 2009, we have grown to nearly 200. Changes have also affected the infrastructure. Currently, Visline is not one, but seven branches, with a modern headquarters in Gdynia opened in 2022.
The Story of the First Order
When we took on our first order on April 6, 2009, we knew that the VIS part of our name – signifying strength, would perfectly describe our motivation and determination to conquer the transport market. However, we did not expect that this strength would become so powerful over the years.
